About the role

As a Space Reactors Lead System Engineer, you will lead systems engineering for NASA's lunar reactor and space nuclear systems, directing multidisciplinary teams across NASA, industry, and government agencies. You will develop and tailor systems engineering approaches to integrate complex aerospace systems, including space fission systems, while working closely with program management, engineering leads, and contractors to define requirements, interfaces, and verification plans. In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below and have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above. NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement. To qualify at the GS-15 level, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level: Developing and negotiating requirements and interfaces for complex space systems, with emphasis on lunar surface systems including launch and lander transportation; Leading systems engineering and integration activities for major aerospace projects, including flight system development, testing, verification, and validation, and providing process tailoring recommendations to project leadership; Providing systems engineering leadership on a major spaceflight effort requiring multi-center coordination and sustained engagement with other government agencies.
