Additional Information

Join a major nuclear new build project as the Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Subject Matter Expert (SME). In this role, you will ensure all NDT activities on and around site meet technical and regulatory requirements. You will provide oversight and assurance that requirements are clearly defined and embedded in procedures, technique sheets, and method statements. You will also support and guide the team responsible for reviewing and approving these documents. A key focus will be reducing risk associated with NDT activities while driving innovation across the supply chain. You will champion the use of advanced techniques such as digital radiography, UT and PAUT, and eddy current methods, selecting the most effective and safest solutions while minimising radiation exposure. You will play a central role in shaping NNB's NDT strategy and surveillance approach. This includes leading technical reviews, supporting decision-making on inspection outcomes, and responding to RFIs, FCRs, and NCRs. Your expertise will help deliver a high-quality, efficient, and compliant NDT programme. Role & Responsibilities In this role, you will typically carry out the below duties: Review and interpret radiographs, particularly in cases requiring arbitration or where concerns have been raised. Categorise indications and determine appropriate resolutions, including identifying potential process or welding issues. Provide technical support during construction, including guidance on non-conformance reports, radiograph failures, and challenges across multiple NDT methods such as dye penetrant, ultrasonic testing, visual inspection, eddy current, and phased array UT. Lead the review and acceptance of NDT documentation, including procedures, RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements), technique sheets, and inspection and test plans. Provide expert input to surveillance guidelines, supporting the Project Quality function in overseeing systems, structures, and components during construction. Support project teams, delivery partners, and contractors with site mobilisation, radiography processes, standards compliance, and expectations for work on a licensed nuclear site. Offer strategic guidance on the planning and coordination of radiography activities, balancing nuclear safety risks and quality requirements. Develop surveillance strategies and documentation for radiography and other NDT techniques, including programmes, work instructions, and guidance materials. Act as the technical lead for the review of radiography documentation across the project. Work closely with the Radiography Coordinator to promote safer practices and encourage the adoption of innovative techniques such as digital radiography. Provide technical expertise in the assessment of Non-Conformance Reports, Requests for Information, and Field Change Requests. Capture and share lessons learned to support continuous improvement across the project and the wider industry. Collaborate with contractors and project teams to resolve radiography-related issues, ensuring delivery to schedule, quality standards, and cost expectations. Qualifications & Skills Significant relevant experience in NDT and welding engineering (IWT or IWE), typically gained over a number of years. Strong knowledge of manufacturing codes and standards, particularly for steel-fabricated equipment. Extensive experience in non-destructive testing, ideally within nuclear or other high-hazard environments. Knowledge of coating and painting processes is advantageous. Broad expertise across multiple NDT techniques is essential. Additional certifications, especially in Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) or surface inspection, are highly beneficial. Results-focused with a collaborative, team-oriented mindset. Strong analytical capability. Able to interpret complex technical data and quickly identify risks and root causes. Proactive in recognising emerging risks and assessing their potential impact. Effective communicator. Able to present complex technical information clearly in a way that supports informed decision-making. Sound understanding of large-scale organisations, process plant environments, and site operations. Advanced expertise in NDT methods and technologies, including their applications, strengths, and limitations. Ability to set direction, define a clear vision, and develop and implement practical strategies to achieve objectives. Comprehensive knowledge of national and international health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards. Demonstrated success in delivering high safety performance on major engineering and construction projects. Fluent in English. ๐ŸŒŸ Why Apply?
