Technician Lead - Operations Position Overview Lead Control Room Operator who oversees, monitors, and operates controls in the centralized control room of the Power Plant to control the loading and operation of generating units and associated equipment. Observes operating parameters of equipment and assures that optimum operating conditions are maintained. Assists with planning and coordination of work. Reviews and approves time worked of team members. Handles the most complex technical problems. Acts on behalf of Shift Supervisor during his/her absence. This position must obtain the knowledge and skills necessary to work at the level of Control Room Operator for the Coal, Combined-Cycle, and Simple-Cycle Units. Essential job functions include, but are not limited to: Assists with planning and coordination of work for operating multiple generating units at GREC. Leverages expert knowledge to solve the most complex problems or issues. Makes a variety of decisions, guided by policies and procedures, which impact the efficiency and effectiveness of the units and team. Observes, records, and evaluates system conditions, maintains, and reviews operational reporting logs and keeps management fully informed of unusual conditions. Takes corrective action and/or initiates requests for equipment repair. Conducts trend analysis of plant/equipment conditions and communicates findings to management and the operating teams. Ensures plant operating conditions remain compliant with company policies & procedures, and applicable permits and regulations. Actively participates in Root Cause Investigations for Incidents/Accidents, Near Miss, Off Normal, and unusual events. Typically operates the plant(s) from the Control Room and may also operate the Auxiliaries in the field, as needed, without supervision. May assume duties as an acting Operations Supervisor, as required. Regularly reviews the shift schedule and ensures staffing of shift crews are adequately maintained to operate the plant(s). Regularly communicates and engages operators on plant status, operational directives, policies, procedures, and safety updates/changes, and keeps management informed of unusual conditions. Monitors, operates, and checks equipment. Proactively engages as the point of contact for the training and mentoring of less experienced team members. Identifies abnormal equipment operations. Monitors, analyzes, and performs boiler and cooling water chemistry tests. Utilizes CMMS system for equipment history and verification of work performed. Creates/approves templates and executes clearance procedures. Follows all safety and environmental rules and regulations. Repairs, inspects, and maintains boiler and boiler auxiliaries, turbine/generator auxiliaries, also fuel supply equipment and auxiliaries, if applicable. Performs general craft tasks, operates various industrial equipment, and uses power hand tools. Reads and interprets drawings and prints. Works with other craft and plant personnel as required. Continually seeks process improvement to save cost and increase efficiency. Skills, Knowledge, Qualities: Demonstrative excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated knowledge of Lock out tag out (LOTO) and proficiency in all plant systems. Demonstrated strong ability to comply with safety policies and seen as a leader in safety. Demonstrated knowledge of auxiliary plant, equipment, systems, and processes. Demonstrated ability to acquire full understanding of plant operation via the Turbine Control HMI and/or Plant DCS. Proficiently use Maximo including work order creation and work order management. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in speech and writing. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively and professionally with team members, leaders, and customers. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve plant problems effectively. Demonstrated ability to understand and comply with company policies and operating procedures. Demonstrated ability to understand plant systems/processes. Demonstrated ability to use common purpose hand tools and other materials of various craft trades. Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision, following approved work methods and standard testing practices. Computer skills with knowledge of MS Office Suite applications.
