The Director of Sponsored Research Finance provides strategic leadership and oversight of all sponsored research financial operations for the university. Reporting directly to the Chief Research Officer, this role ensures the accurate, compliant, and timely financial management of grants and contracts in accordance with GAAP, Uniform Guidance, sponsor and university requirements, and applicable state and federal regulations. As a key partner to faculty, the Office of Sponsored Research, and central University Finance, the Director leads a team of senior research accountants, delivers high quality financial reporting, and serves as a trusted expert and advisor on sponsored research financial policy, compliance, and issue resolution. This position offers the opportunity to shape institutional research finance practices while supporting a vibrant and growing research enterprise. Responsibilities Include: Lead and oversee all sponsored research accounting operations, ensuring financial integrity, regulatory compliance, and consistent application of policies across the research portfolio. Manage and develop a high‑performing research accounting team, providing supervision, mentoring, performance evaluations, and professional development to support excellence and accountability. Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closes, including general ledger integrity, reconciliation of all awards, and preparation of financial statements in collaboration with central Finance. Oversee financial activity for sponsored projects, including revenue recognition, payroll allocations, cost transfers, journal entries, indirect cost recovery, and financial reporting. Review and approve grant‑related transactions, including expenditures, reimbursements, subaward invoices, and cost transfers, ensuring accuracy and compliance with sponsor and university requirements. Monitor and reconcile sponsored project accounts, including deferred revenue, advance accounts, restricted funds, and capital projects. Provide leadership on audit readiness and compliance, supporting internal, external, and agency audits by preparing documentation, reconciliations, and responses in accordance with Uniform Guidance. Serve as a primary resource for faculty and staff, offering guidance on grant financial policies, compliance questions, and complex issue resolution. Support and enhance systems and processes, including advising staff on Workday system functionality and participating in efforts to improve efficiency, consistency, and controls. Contribute to the development and implementation of sponsored research financial policies and procedures, promoting best practices and continuous improvement. Prepare and present financial data and analyses for the Office of Sponsored Research, University Finance, and senior leadership to support informed decision‑making. Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Research Officer. Requirements Include : Bachelor's degree in Accounting required Position will be on-campus (not remote) Minimum of 3 years of experience required in area of expertise preferred Knowledge of the reconciliation process preferred Non-profit accounting experience preferred Previous supervisory experience preferred Salary Range: $115,000 - $130,000 annually.
