About the role

Creative Assembly is seeking a new Writer with a talent and passion for narrative, dialogue and world-building to help us create written content for our much-anticipated titles in the Total War franchise. This role is Hybrid and has an expectation of 3 days per week (Tuesday-Thursday) in our Sofia studio. Further details can be discussed during the recruitment process. Responsibilities

  • On a day to day basis you will:
  • Write in-game descriptions, tooltips and world-building text as required by the Lead Writer, narrative designers and design teams.
  • Write character VO scripts and biographies for characters and units.
  • Edit and iterate both in-game text and dialogue scripts identified above.
  • Collaborate with designers on both secondary game narratives and primary game-defining story arcs.
  • Provide writing support where required for cinematic assets such as in-game movies or trailers.
  • Review and maintain writing database to achieve writing goals and identify remedial action if required.
  • Learn gameplay elements quickly for the purposes of writing clear and concise instructional or tutorial pieces.
  • Understand the writing pipeline and implement final text to game databases when necessary.
  • Deliver all writing tasks with spell-checked and grammatically correct text to given deadlines.
  • Maintain high writing standards, conventions and tone of voice across Total War titles.
  • Identify and fix text bugs.

Requirements

  • Essential
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Knowledge of Games Workshop's IPs, particularly Warhammer 40k and Fantasy.
  • Experience in writing prose and dialogue within any form of published media.
  • Ability to identify and use the correct tone, format and style to fulfil a given writing brief.
  • Understanding of storytelling structures, characterisation and worldbuilding.
  • Efficient at researching diverse topics and distilling information relevant to writing for Total War games.
  • Ability to learn basic dev and debug tools helpful to all writing pipelines.
  • Can estimate tasks and deliver within agreed timeframes.
  • Works effectively with editorial leadership for revisions, rewrites and polish.
  • Understanding of and basic ability to deliver editing and proofreading.
  • Basic Excel proficiency.

  • Experience working with IP partner style guides and approvals.
