About the role

About the job: This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, highly motivated individual to join our vibrant, multidisciplinary rare disease research team. You will work within a multidisciplinary, multi-centre team as part of an international collaborative project - the LifeArc Centre for the Acceleration of Rare Disease Trials (ARDT). This role provides an opportunity to work in partnership with academic and clinical colleagues, professional support teams, community groups, policy makers, and industrial collaborators. You will work within a collaborative research environment that fosters a culture of trust and mutual respect. Rare diseases affect ~475 million people globally, with more than 110,000 people affected by rare diseases within NI. ARDT brings together a consortium of three universities from across the UK: Queen's University Belfast, Newcastle University, and University of Birmingham. This role has two elements. You will work with Dr Noleen McCorry, establishing acceptable and accessible methods of supporting PRO collection in rare disease trials, ensuring that clinical research captures what matters to patients, and ultimately leading to more meaningful trial outcomes improved patient engagement, and enhanced treatment decision-making. You will also work with Prof AJ McKnight, focusing on regulatory issues for data collection / data sharing, access to medicines, and clinical trial delivery as we work towards breaking down barriers in the NHS around access to rare disease med icines and implementing innovation within the NHS. International collaborators support a wider global evaluation of regulatory issues. About the person: Essential Criteria: Have or about to obtain a PhD in relevant discipline (e.g. public health, psychology, health services research, biomedicine or other social/health sciences). Significant relevant research experience. Significant, recent, relevant experience conducting qualitative research. Experience in relevant models and methods (e.g. conducting systematic evidence syntheses, data collection and analysis, participatory and equity-focused research methods). Experience in participant recruitment and engagement. Experience of project management, delivering research outcomes, and proven ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment as part of a research team. A publication track record commensurate with the stage of career.
