Talen Energy is seeking a Health & Safety Specialist for our fossil power plants located in Baltimore, MD. Responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance and evaluation of identified health and safety programs including the complex analysis of data resulting from these programs. Manages and oversees existing health and safety programs to reduce risk in the work environment. Recommends and designs new workplace health and safety programs relative to risk management and hazard abatement. Develops action plans to control health risks and hazards to all employees in the workforce. Creates, modifies and submits revisions to safety manuals and procedures as appropriate. The incumbent provides technical guidance and direction to other Company employees in support of producing high quality, timely and cost-effective solutions to ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State and local regulations. This position requires partnering with groups, such as but not limited to those involved in training and performance assessment to identify learning and development gaps, identify solutions and to foster development of all employees relative to health and safety issues. The person in this role reports to the Brandon Shores and Wagner Plant Manager. The ideal candidate possesses excellent written and verbal communications skills and has demonstrated strong abilities in building relationships with peers, workforce, and leadership. This is an on-site position based at the Brandon Shores and Wagner plants in Baltimore, MD, with occasional travel to other Talen facilities in the mid-Atlantic region. How You'll Power the Future Serves as a technical expert and provides technical support to internal and external stakeholders' regarding compliance with health and safety regulations. Supports programs to enhance the public image of corporate health and safety performance through education activities and other actions that encourage responsible behavior. Organizes and conducts health and safety studies. Performs trending analysis to improve health and safety performance by gathering data, developing reports, identifying gaps, evaluating risk and implementing process improvements and/or corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence. Evaluates, designs, and conducts training and materials in support of health and safety initiatives. Actively engages with entire organization; coaches and mentors all levels of personnel on critical skills, behaviors and techniques that build and sustain a zero injury/illness culture. Provides governance and quality oversight of health and safety programs. Recommends changes in procedures, processes, design, or equipment. Keeps abreast of federal, state and local occupational health and safety regulations, reviews technical literature. Participates in audits for compliance to occupational health and safety programs. Participates in industrial safety conferences and benchmarks top performing organizations for program improvements. What you have Bachelor's degree in Safety Engineering, Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, or other equivalent technical field. Preference will be given to candidates with 1-5 years of work experience in industrial hygiene or safety. Experience with interpretation of health and safety regulations. Experience rapidly organizing and analyzing complex and diverse topics and situations, as well as large amounts of data.
