Responsibilities

  • Be the technical owner of a service or platform end to end - stakeholder engagement, requirements, roadmap, design, implementation, sustainment and evolution
  • Design systems for operation, not just for build: failure modes, blast radius, observability, capacity, recovery, secure configuration and multi-domain constraints
  • Produce automation and tooling that others adopt - well-structured, safe to run, mindful of re-use and the operator on the other end - in Python, Bash or Go
  • Isolate non-obvious faults efficiently across infrastructure-as-code and observability, and leave the environment better than you found it
  • Work across cloud-native (AWS, Terraform, Kubernetes) and classified on-premises (Windows, Active Directory, VMware, air-gapped) environments, rotating across the breadth as a confident generalist
  • Carry the ISM/PSPF accreditation work for the service you own - designing secure baselines and multi-domain constraints into it
  • Partner fluently with software, autonomy and Maritime engineering teams, act as a trusted advisor, and mentor others in reliability practice
  • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Around eight or more years in infrastructure, reliability, platform or DevOps roles - demonstrated experience weighted over formal qualifications
  • A track record as the technical owner of a service or platform: requirements, roadmap, co-ordination, design, implementation and sustainment
  • Deep in several layers of the stack and conversant across all of them, able to discuss trade-offs and failure history from real operations
  • Fluent scripting and automation in Python, Bash or Go, producing reusable tooling others would adopt
  • Strong systems-design judgement for operability - security baselines, graceful degradation, explicit cost and scaling trade-offs
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) and container orchestration (Kubernetes) in production
  • Australian citizen, able to obtain and maintain an Australian NV2 security clearance (existing NV2 or equivalent preferred)

Requirements

  • Experience in highly regulated environments (Defence or other Critical Infrastructure), with hands-on ISM/PSPF accreditation ownership
  • Experience with classified or air-gapped on-premises infrastructure (Windows, Active Directory, VMware) as well as cloud-native estates
  • A strong understanding of networking in cloud and hybrid environments
  • Experience mentoring engineers and co-ordinating across a service or platform
  • Software-engineering depth - for example production service development in Go, Rust or similar - is welcomed and can open additional, more software-heavy reliability roles, but is not required and is never a screen for this role

Additional Information

Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century's most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril's family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years. Anduril Australia's Corporate Technology team runs the infrastructure and toolchains our engineers build on - across cloud and classified on-premises environments that support programs like the Extra Large Autonomous Undersea Vehicle (XL-AUV). We are looking for a senior infrastructure and reliability engineer to be the technical owner of a service or platform on the estate: someone who has owned a service before, can speak from real operational failure history, and sets its reliability and security baselines. You do not need to be a software engineer. You do need to be deep across several layers of the stack and fluent partnering with the engineers who build on it.
