About the role
We are looking for a Linux Development Engineer to join the eLxr team and contribute to the development, maintenance, and enhancement of our Debian- based Linux distribution. This role involves hands-on development, packaging, and upstream collaboration with open-source communities. Responsibilities & Accountabilities Develop, maintain, and improve system components for a Debian-based Linux distribution. Create and update Debian packages as part of the distribution's lifecycle. Work with GitLab or GitHub CI/CD pipelines to automate builds, tests, and deployments. Troubleshoot system issues across user space and low-level components. Document development processes, design decisions, and technical implementations. Work closely with cross-functional teams to support distribution integration and feature development.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in Linux system development, distribution engineering
- Hands-on experience with Linux distributions, preferably Debian or Debian-based systems.
- Experience contributing to or maintaining open-source projects.
- Strong programming skills in Python, Go, Bash, C, and C++.
- Experience working with CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI or GitHub Actions.
- Solid understanding of Linux fundamentals, command line, system internals, and debugging tools
- Must reside in Greater Ottawa area with ability to be present on site
- Canadian Citizenship or Permanent Residency is required
- Experience working with cloud environments such as AWS.
- Experience with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- In-depth Linux systems knowledge, including kernel internals, device drivers, or low-level debugging.
- Experience contributing to large-scale open-source initiatives.
