Revenue Accounting Systems Specialist Job Description The Revenue Accounting Systems Specialist is a hybrid role designed for a technically-minded accountant who enjoys the intersection of financial policy and system architecture. You will be responsible for the "precision work" of revenue accounting-performing contract reviews and executing the month-end close-while simultaneously serving as the functional super-user for our revenue recognition engine. You will act as the vital bridge between Revenue Accounting, IT, and RevOps , ensuring that our IFRS 15 policies are not just written on paper, but are accurately embedded into our automated systems.
Responsibilities
- Revenue Execution & Month-End
- Technical Review: Perform detailed contract and deal assessments to ensure compliance with IFRS 15 (Performance Obligations, SSP, and Variable Consideration).
- Close Management: Prepare and review monthly revenue journal entries, deferred revenue reconciliations, and flux analyses.
- Audit Support: Act as a key point of contact for internal and external auditors, providing PBC (Provided by Client) schedules and explaining system-generated reports.
- Systems & Data Integrity
- Functional Super-User: Serve as the primary administrator and subject matter expert for the revenue recognition tool (e.g., SAP RAR, RevPro, or similar).
- Liaison & Troubleshooting: Partner with IT and RevOps to troubleshoot data breaks between the CRM (Salesforce), Billing, and the ERP.
- UAT Leadership: Own the User Acceptance Testing (UAT) process for any new system enhancements, ensuring no "accounting leakage" occurs during updates.
- Process Transformation & Automation
- Optimization: Proactively identify manual workarounds in the current Quote-to-Cash (Q2C) process and propose automated solutions.
- Documentation: Maintain and update "living" process documentation that maps how accounting logic is translated into system configurations.
- Scaling: Assist in the global rollout of new revenue modules or entities, ensuring data structures are consistent across the group.
- Compliance & Governance
- Controls: Maintain a robust internal control environment (SOX-compliant) over revenue data flows and system access.
- Data Quality: Monitor the integrity of upstream data to ensure that revenue is triggered accurately and automatically upon contract execution.
- The Profile
- Experience: 3-6 years of experience in Revenue Accounting or a closely related Financial Systems role (SaaS or Technology sector preferred).
- Technical Knowledge: Solid foundational understanding of IFRS 15 / ASC 606 and the ability to apply it to complex, multi-element contracts.
- Systems Savvy: Advanced proficiency in Excel is a must. Experience with a major ERP (SAP, NetSuite, Oracle) and dedicated RevRec software is highly required.
- Mindset: You are detail-oriented enough to catch a reconciliation error but curious enough to want to automate the fix so it never happens again.
- Communication: Ability to translate "accountant-speak" into technical requirements for IT developers and vice versa.
