This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to an ASAP‑funded international research project investigating seeded aggregation of alpha‑synuclein in Parkinson's disease and related synucleinopathies. You will work within a dynamic and inclusive research environment at the Michael Barber Centre for Collaborative Mass Spectrometry , part of the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology. This is a full‑time, fixed‑term role for 36 months , starting as soon as possible and running until 31 st May 2029 (unless extended) . You will be responsible for: Supporting receipt, logging, storage and tracking of biological samples Preparing biological samples for mass spectrometry‑based metabolomics and lipidomics analysis Assisting with LC‑MS, MS/MS and ion‑mobility mass spectrometry workflows under supervision Operating, monitoring and maintaining mass spectrometry and chromatography equipment appropriate to training level Maintaining accurate laboratory records, data organisation and quality control documentation We welcome candidates who bring diverse perspectives, experiences, and approaches to their work. You should demonstrate: Essential criteria: A degree, or equivalent experience, in chemistry, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, biomedical science or a related discipline Practical laboratory experience in analytical science or biological sample preparation Experience of mass spectrometry, chromatography or related analytical techniques Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail and record‑keeping Ability to work effectively and reliably as part of a collaborative research team Desirable criteria: Experience with LC‑MS, GC‑MS, ion mobility MS or tandem MS Experience preparing samples for metabolomics or lipidomics analysis Experience working with limited or precious biological material Experience working in a shared instrumentation facility or multidisciplinary environment Interest in neurodegeneration, Parkinson's disease or biomedical mass spectrometry We value reliability, care in laboratory practice and willingness to learn as much as formal experience.
