About the role

Department The vision of the Department of Computer Science at the University of York is to be internationally leading in education and research on the engineering of safe, ethical and secure computational systems. With this appointment, we are seeking to appoint an excellent researcher and teacher to join our High Integrity Systems Engineering (HISE) research group. HISE is an internationally renowned centre of excellence in safety assurance for complex computer-based systems. For nearly four decades, the group has been at the forefront of shaping safety practices through cutting-edge research in safety cases, safety analysis and safety-driven V&V, with long-established links to leading engineering companies such as Rolls-Royce and Jaguar Land Rover and regulatory bodies such as the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and Office for Product Safety & Standards. This lectureship is associated with the Centre for Assuring Autonomy (CfAA). Role As part of our on-going commitment to this teaching and research excellence, we are seeking to appoint a Lecturer who will complement and enhance the research, industrial engagement and teaching strengths of our Automated Software Engineering research group. Details of the active research areas of this group can be found here . Skills, Experience & Qualifications Needed PhD in AI, safety analysis or their combination, or equivalent experience. Appropriate academic professional and teaching qualifications or a willingness to complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice. Knowledge of safety analysis, including software safety analysis methods. Specialist knowledge in AI, including mainstream methods, e.g. deep learning, and awareness of the state-of-the-art in key sub-topics, e.g. LLMs, GenAI or explainability. Interview date: TBC.
