Job Description I. JOB SUMMARY The staff Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant functions under the direct supervision of the therapist responsible for a specific patient's care. The staff Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant assumes responsibility and accountability for providing occupational therapy modalities and treatment procedures as determined by a treatment plan established by an Occupational Therapist and in accordance with established hospital and departmental policy and procedures, maintaining the highest degree of quality patient care. II. ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES a. Provides occupational therapy care as per physician's orders and plan of care developed by evaluating therapist. b. Takes measurement of patient's status, within the limits of his/her licensure and ability, as appropriate in providing care and to assist it assessing the effectiveness of care. c. Maintains communication and collaborates with the evaluating occupational therapist to promote maximum benefits from therapy. d. Implements education plan as outlined by the evaluating therapist, determines additional educational needs of the patient/family, caregiver, or significant other as they arise and in collaborating with the evaluating therapist, provides education to meet those needs. e. Follow plan of discharge and discusses with evaluating therapist any additional discharge concerns, which arise during care. f. Communicates with patient, family caregivers, significant others and members of the health care team to promote max benefit of care. g. Performs other duties as needed or assigned. III.
