JOB PURPOSE The Applications Engineer is responsible for driving and supporting the development of fuel injection test solutions for Hartridge Ltd and OE partner approved solutions from concept through to completion. The role is a "hands-on" role, requiring a self-starter who is both proficient working in a development workshop environment working on Hartridge equipment, as well as within an office environment writing specifications, analysing data, and holding formal meetings/discussions.
Responsibilities
- Key accountabilities:
- Act as Lead Engineer on Hartridge R&D projects
- Developing the functional specifications and the concepts which will deliver new products and accessories
- Designing and executing experiments to validate/verify new machine / control concepts
- Writing project technical documentation (eg. specifications, timing plans, acceptance test procedures, user manuals, applications guides)
- Liaising with internal and external customers, ensuring the requirements of the customer and Hartridge are both fulfilled
- Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
- Qualifications/education
- Degree qualified engineer, with 3 years + experience within an engineering environment
- Alternatively, having attained an HNC/HND in an engineering discipline
- Full UK driving licence
- Eligible to work in the UK
- Experience/skills
- NPI/NPD experience in an engineering/product development environment
- Ability to create and develop technical specifications
- Knowledge & experience with hydraulic and electrical control systems
- Experience in developing test techniques, their execution and subsequent data analysis, using analysis/measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, specifically competent with MS Excel and/or other data processing tools
- Ability to read technical drawings and an understanding of mechanical design principles
- Ability to communicate effectively with other business functions and external customers
- Knowledge of Diesel Common Rail and Gasoline Direct fuel injection systems
- Knowledge of project management tools and techniques
- Basic CAD experience i.e. opening drawings, opening assemblies
- Non-essential but desirable requirements:
- Vehicle control systems and fuel injection systems
- Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical assemblies and electrical layouts.
- DFM/DFA (design for manufacture/design for assembly), VA/VE, FMEA
- Knowledge of CI tools
- Particular aptitude/skills
- Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision to deliver projects
- Self-starting and resilient with the ability to make progress
- Strong analytical skills with particular attention to detail
- Good troubleshooting skills with a strong desire to get involved
- Good team player - winning as part of a cross functional team is a priority
