Location: Defiance Regional Hospital Department: Cardiology Weekly Hours: 0 Status: Per Diem Shift: Days (United States of America) Job Summary: As the Registered Diagnostic Sonographer, you will perform exams on a variety of patients and produce sonograms under the direction of the manager of the Cardio-Pulmonary department. You will determine when it is appropriate to use a contrast media, obtain orders from physicians and work with the RN as contrast media is administered. You will be responsible for logging patient traffic, patient recordkeeping, the upkeep of equipment and routine maintenance of machines. ACCOUNTABILITIES *All duties listed below are essential unless noted otherwise* The medical sonographer demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patient served in the employees assigned department/unit. Demonstrates the ability to reduce anxiety and build trust with patients. Selects proper technical factors on an individual basis, taking into account the age of the patient. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development, the ability to assess and interpret age/developmental specific data, response to treatment, provides appropriate data to other caregivers, and involves family and/or significant other in decision-making related to plan of care as described in the departments policies and procedures. Deciphers when it is appropriate to use a contrast media, obtains order from physician, works with RN as the contrast media is administered. Performs exams on all patient types including pediatric and geriatric patients as well as the general population. Produces Sonograms according to department protocols. Accumulates accurate patient data by obtaining relevant information from patient's clinical records and/or by physical assessment of the patient: all of which are essential to accurate interpretation of results. Responsible for clerical duties in logging patient traffic, patient record keeping, and departmental statistics. Responsible for upkeep of equipment and routine maintenance of machines as well as general infection control/housekeeping procedures relating to equipment and work areas. Positions patients and provides immobilization devices as required . Provides patient protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards. Completes annual competency assessments. Maintains ethical relationships at all times . Maintains adequate records as required . Keeps abreast of new procedures, equipment, and methods. Procures and maintains adequate supplies and materials. Performs other duties as required , including but not limited to stress testing, tilt table testing, Holter monitor set up and scanning, EEG's etc. as requested . POPULATION SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES Assesses children and adolescent patients for developmental level. Assesses geriatric patients for hearing, vision, and mobility. Assesses mentally disabled patient based on developmental level. Demonstrates ability to recognize positioning needs in physically challenged patients. Identifies and implements appropriate safety measures. Uses appropriate methods to communicate with family/significant others including tone of voice, inclusion in patient's care (with patient's permission) as appropriate and avoiding jargon.
