About the role

Responsibilities

  • Design new Metal API to meet the varying requirements of stakeholders inside/outside Apple
  • Implement Metal software features, delivering robust, maintainable and extendable code
  • Develop API and/or shader validation to help internal and external developers use Metal features
  • Extend and improve API testing to ensure correct behavior of new and existing Metal API

Requirements

  • Recent experience with modern rendering techniques like ray tracing
  • Familiarity with machine learning frameworks and accelerating them on the GPU
  • Experience in developing OS, systems, frameworks and/or game middleware software
  • Familiarity with Apple framework and API design patterns
  • B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or a related technical field; or equivalent experience
  • Practical experience in modern GPU programming using Metal, DirectX, and/or Vulkan
  • Knowledge of Operating Systems, Computer Architecture, and CPU/GPU programming
  • Proven experience shipping software written in C, C++ and/or Objective-C programming languages

Additional Information

The Metal Frameworks team is directly responsible for the Metal APIs used by both internal and external clients to interface with the powerful Apple Silicon GPU on all Apple platforms, from the smallest Apple Watch to the largest Mac Pro and everything in between. The team collaborates closely with GPU driver, compiler, ecosystem, tooling, and platform OS teams to deliver the best possible Metal developer experience, as well as internal client teams wishing to leverage the computational power of the GPU.
