The evaluation service links on the following site are provided by South Texas College for your convenience but are not affiliated with South Texas College: NACES Members Job Description Department: Facility Maintenance General Statement of Job The Energy Management Specialist provides technical support and oversees all tasks associated with energy conservation programs in buildings and facilities owned and operated by the College. In addition, this position monitors the Energy Management System (EMS) to ensure efficient operations for good Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ). The Energy Management Specialist works independently in developing and implementing programs or activities that advance sustainable practices including, but not limited to, initiatives in energy and water conservation by daily monitoring of Building Automation Systems and providing analysis of all assigned projects and functions Specific Duties and Responsibilities Essential Functions: Monitors the Energy Management Systems (EMS) to ensure efficient operation for good IEQ. Assists in the implementation of preventive maintenance program for the EMS. Monitors the efficiency of energy management operations and detects possible equipment failures. Develops and implements building inspections related to, but not limited to, indoor air quality, negative pressurize rooms, etc. Develops and implements inspections of all engineering controls. Regularly tours College facilities to personally inspect operations and communicate with different departments. Monitors the general operation of the Building Automation Systems (BAS) to ensure proper operability. Assists in locating, defining, and repairing problems in energy management systems and equipment. Plans, organizes, schedules, and conducts inspections of facilities, work areas, and equipment. Uses the college's work order system (CMMS) to note time spent and the work performed relative to specific work requests. Recommend improvements of safety engineering control and indoor air quality. Assists with the College-wide sustainability programs and/or projects in distinct areas of specialty such as, but not limited to: waste minimization program, environmentally preferable procurement, green building, and energy efficiency. Performs designated tasks as described in energy management program. Evaluates usage data to determine areas in which energy conservation measures are needed. Compiles data in accordance to plan for review by Manger. Attends energy management seminars, staff meetings, and training sessions to assess effectiveness of various energy audit programs. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience Associate's Degree required. At least four (4) years of commercial and/or residential energy management experience preferred. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, the Windows environment, and internet research skills. Knowledge of the US EPA, US DOE, ASHRAE, and NFPA Codes in order to maintain the energy management program in compliance with federal, state, and local laws. Knowledge of standard practices associated with energy management systems installations, modifications, maintenance and repairs. Knowledge of use and care of energy management tools, equipment, and testing devices. Ability to follow OSHA laws and regulations in order to avoid occupational hazards and take appropriate safety precautions when servicing related equipment.
