About the role

Curtin College is seeking a teaching-focused Academic (Full-time, Ongoing) to deliver high-quality, student-centred teaching and contribute to strong student success outcomes within the Diploma of Commerce. Responsibilities

  • Unit Coordination and Teaching
  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver engaging learning experiences aligned with unit learning outcomes, university standards, and AQF requirements
  • Teach across Diploma of Commerce units, including CCPB and other business-related subjects
  • Integrate academic literacy and communication skill development into teaching to support ESL/EAL and first-year learners
  • Ensure consistent delivery of assigned units across campuses, including planning, communication, and coordination of teaching activities
  • Lead and support sessional teaching staff, providing guidance on curriculum, assessment, and teaching practice
  • Assessment and Quality Assurance
  • Design, implement, and review assessment tasks aligned with unit learning outcomes, university standards, and AQF requirements
  • Lead moderation, validation, and external benchmarking processes to ensure consistency and academic standards
  • Oversee marking, grading, results finalisation, and academic reporting processes in line with institutional timelines
  • Manage academic integrity matters, assessment queries, and appeals in accordance with Curtin College and Curtin University policies
  • Ensure compliance with institutional academic policies, procedures, and quality assurance frameworks
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to maintain curriculum currency and alignment
  • Contribute to curriculum review and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Student Support and Success within the Program
  • Monitor student engagement, progress, and performance, identifying and supporting students at risk
  • Provide timely academic advice and support, including early intervention strategies
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that respects cultural diversity and supports transition to university study
  • Program Contribution
  • Collaborate with the Academic Program Manager on program development, review, accreditation, and quality assurance activities
  • Contribute to curriculum development, teaching innovation, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Participate in academic governance, reporting, and compliance processes as required
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to maintain currency in teaching, assessment, and academic policy
  • Selection Criteria
  • Essential:
  • A postgraduate qualification (or higher) in Commerce, Business or a closely related discipline.
  • A minimum of two years' relevant teaching experience in higher education or a tertiary pathway setting at AQF Level 5 or above.
  • Proven ability to embed academic literacy skills within discipline‑specific teaching, including the integration of language development into content delivery, to support ESL/EAL learners in developing both academic competence and subject knowledge.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and coordinating teaching teams, including supporting consistent delivery and assessment practices.
  • Strong understanding of assessment design, academic integrity, and academic quality assurance processes within a higher education or pathway context.
  • Strong digital capability and learning technology proficiency, including experience using Moodle (or similar LMS), Turnitin, and Microsoft Office.
  • Evidence of student‑centred and inclusive teaching practices that support diverse learner cohorts, including international and transitioning students.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and contribute equitably within a team environment, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight timelines.
  • Desirable:
  • A relevant language or academic literacy teaching qualification, such as Graduate Certificate in Education (ESL), TESOL, TEFL, or equivalent academic liter
