For more than one hundred years, Plant Breeding and Genetics at Cornell University has been widely recognized for developing novel breeding methodologies and discovering economically important genes and varieties. What We Need As a member of the Virginia Moore Lab, you will provide routine technical field, greenhouse, and lab support, including experiments related to forage, cover crop, dry bean, and hemp breeding. You will also help with core research activities, including planting, data collection, and harvesting . Other duties include: Assisting with field preparation, planting, and management of field experiments. Collecting data in field, greenhouse, and lab experiments. Assisting in the daily care for plants and experimental samples. Performing data entry using basic computer techniques and software. We are looking for a talented individual with an excellent work ethic, who appreciates the environment and working outside. Specifically, we need someone who has the following: High School Diploma and 1 year of relevant experience in a laboratory setting, or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior knowledge of safety protocols in a field setting. Experience with Microsoft Office suite - including Word, PowerPoint and Excel and familiarity with Outlook. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with faculty, staff and students. Visual concentration, attention to detail, and manual dexterity are required. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to meet the travel requirements of the position and have reliable transportation as well as have and maintain a valid and unrestricted New York State driver's license and be cleared to drive for university business. Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members. If you possess these experiences and skills, this may be the role for you! There are a few other qualifications that we would view as incredibly helpful in this role, including: Associate's Degree in Plant Science or Agriculture-related fields. Prior experience in a farm or greenhouse setting. This is a four-month, temporary, full-time position at 40 hours/week that is contingent upon available work, funding, and performance. This on-site position is located in Ithaca, New York. Rewards and Benefits Compensation range is $22.70/hour to $23.56/hour.
