About the role

ALO is seeking a Sr. Counsel, Trademark & IP attorney to help protect and grow our global brand portfolio. This role will report directly to the Director of Intellectual Property and will help lead day-to-day legal support for trademark strategy, clearance, prosecution, enforcement, and brand collaborations. The Sr. Counsel will also provide IP-adjacent legal support for contracts, employment, litigation, and general corporate matters where trademark and IP issues arise. We're looking for a practical, business-minded attorney who can balance risk and brand goals in a fast-paced, high-growth environment, and who enjoys building scalable processes, training, and playbooks that empower teams to move quickly.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and grow ALO's global trademark portfolio, including prosecution, maintenance, and enforcement across key jurisdictions.
  • Provide clearance counseling for new products, campaigns, and collaborations, and partner with Creative, Marketing, Product, and Digital teams to drive timely, business-forward decisions.
  • Manage trademark prosecution strategy and oversee filings, office actions, renewals, and global portfolio hygiene, while developing clear intake and prioritization processes.
  • Help lead enforcement strategy for infringement matters, including demand letters, negotiation, settlement strategy, and escalation decisions, and coordinate with litigation counsel when disputes progress.
  • Support ALO's global Brand Protection team with enforcement efforts related to anticounterfeiting, infringing product listings, domain disputes, and enforcement across online marketplaces, websites, and social media platforms.
  • Advise on trademark and IP issues embedded in commercial agreements, including influencer/talent, sponsorships, collaborations, licensing, co-branding, and vendor contracts.
  • Support product and creative teams with trademark and IP guidance for packaging, labeling, content, and asset usage, including appropriate notices and brand standards.
  • Manage outside counsel budgets and performance, select and supervise vendors, and drive cost-effective outcomes.
  • Track and report portfolio/enforcement metrics, and provide clear executive updates on risk, strategy, and outcomes.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver practical, business-oriented counsel in a fast-moving environment; strong judgment and comfort balancing risk and brand priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong project management and stakeholder management across functions.
  • J.D. from a top law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (CA preferred)
  • Experience supporting trademark and IP issues in fashion, apparel and luxury goods industries preferred.
  • Track record of building scalable processes (intake systems, playbooks, trainings) that improve speed and consistency.
