About the role
We are seeking an Engineering Lead based in our Budapest office to lead one of the teams in our Regional Tribe. You will be leading the Global Currencies team, which serves a special purpose in Wise: It's the bridge between Wise and the Swift network - the backbone of the financial system and interbank communication. The team is expert in correspondent banking and various Swift services, like SwiftRef and GPI, and they utilise these services to a high extent to improve our product. The main challenge is to get our customer's money to the recipients the fastest and most reliable way, without unexpected deductions on the Swift network - a challenging, but not impossible task. To solve this challenge the team builds a unique routing system, which uses GPI data to constantly optimise how payments are processed on the network. Our technology stack includes Java, Kotlin, Kafka messaging and relational databases, but also graphs and LLMs. The team is dynamically growing, and its role and responsibilities are increasing every day. How we work We work in an agile fashion, with engineers closely collaborating with the product manager, banker, operations and analysts. The team operates across our Budapest, Tallinn and London offices. What will you be working on? You will make sure that the team is building the right product for our customers in a scalable, sustainable way. As a people manager , you will be responsible for your team's productivity, goal setting, career path identification, and you'll be supporting the engineers in their individual growth. Also, you'll make sure the team has the right size and mix of people, you will decide when to hire and who. Don't worry, you and your team will be supported by the product manager, banker, analyst, and your lead. What do you need? We are fully aware that it is uncommon for a candidate to have all skills required and we fully support everyone in learning new skills with us.
