About the role
The Records Management Officer (RMO) position is in the Support Services Division. Under the general direction of the Support Services Division Chief, the RMO for VBA facilities has oversight for the facility-wide Records management program. The RMO is the subject matter expert for the facility Records Management Program. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement:07/08/2026. TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENT: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. For a GS-12 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11. If you are a current VBA employee requesting a reassignment or change to lower grade via this vacancy announcement, you must currently hold the GS-12 (or higher) and the promotion potential of your current position must be at least GS-12. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. A SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is defined as: To qualify, applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-11) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience is defined as work that involves (1) Applying pertinent laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and judicial determination related to veteran's benefits programs or services;(2) Planning, organizing, managing projects, and prioritizing work under time constraints and stressful situations;(3) Securing benefits for veterans using FOIA, Privacy Act, etc.(4) Writing professional and technical information in a clear, logical, and concise manner.(5) Use of software applications to perform statistical analysis of programs/issues and preparing reports and briefings. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Full vs. Part-Time Employment: Full-time employment is considered to be at least 35 hours per week. Part-time experience will be credited on a pro-rated basis; when including part-time employment in your resume you must specify the average hours worked per week. Physical Requirements: Physical Demands The work requires considerable walking, standing, and bending in searching various file locations. There is occasional lifting and carrying of such items as records boxes averaging 35 pounds, folders, and shred envelopes. Involves the operation and maintenance of shred receptacles and shredders. The RMO will perform the electronic equivalent of the physical demands listed above, as system capabilities permit (e. g., reviewing and approving the removal of documents marked for disposition in the electronic environment).
