Responsibilities

  • Conduct archaeological surveys and site investigations
  • Perform Phase I pedestrian surveys and support Phase II and III fieldwork as needed
  • Walk long distances in challenging environmental and weather conditions
  • Document archaeological resources and prepare sections of technical cultural resources reports
  • Complete state-specific site forms and supporting documentation
  • Participate in project planning, logistics, and scheduling
  • Comply with ERM health, safety, and quality standards
  • Support additional project needs as assigned

Requirements

  • Required
  • B.A. or B.S. in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field or equivalent experience
  • Completion of an accredited archaeological field school
  • Recent graduate to 1 year of experience with Phase I, II, and/or III archaeological fieldwork
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and work outdoors in variable weather and terrain
  • Willingness to travel frequently and work weekends or extended hours as project needs require
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow direction while working independently
  • Demonstrated technical writing skills
  • Ability to comply with Health & Safety requirements, including periodic drug and alcohol testing
  • This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship
  • Preferred
  • M.A. or M.S. in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field
  • Experience as a crew chief or field director
  • Qualifications meeting the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Standards for Archaeology
  • Familiarity with prehistoric and historic artifact assemblages
  • Experience completing SHPO site forms and related data entry
  • GIS, graphics, database, or digital photography experience

In this role, you'll help identify, document, and protect archaeological resources while supporting responsible development. Your work will directly inform compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act and contribute to thoughtful decision-making that balances progress and preservation. What Your Impact Is Working closely with experienced Archaeologists, you'll support Phase I, II, and III archaeological investigations-both in the field and in the office. You'll help evaluate sites for National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligibility, assess project impacts under Section 106, and contribute to high-quality technical documentation that stands up to regulatory review. With up to 70% (or more) of your time spent in the field during peak seasons, you'll gain hands-on experience that accelerates your professional growth.
