Under the direction of the Lieutenant, the Sergeant is an armed supervisory position overseeing Public Safety Officers and Assistants on assigned shifts. Conducts criminal and administrative investigations, ensures adherence to departmental policies and procedures, acts as an Incident Commander in the absence of a Lieutenant during critical situations and participates in officer training programs. Responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the Enterprise, their assets, employees, guests, and properties across all Department of Public Safety (DPS) components. This is a uniformed guard position, requiring compliance with all current California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) guard card guidelines. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Communicates critical information to internal leadership and responds to calls, requests, and emergencies by both the department and tribal needs. 2. Ensures adherence to departmental standards, rules, and regulations and supports revisions and changes to policies, procedures, and practices. 3. Reviews and coordinates the gathering of information for proper reporting and case classification. 4. Monitors assigned areas and assists with major incidents as needed. 5. Maintains authorized equipment and vehicles; determines necessity of emergency responses. 6. Assists in various divisions as needed, including but not limited to Investigations, and other specialized units. 7. Stays current with law enforcement best practices and legal updates. 8. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning reviewing and directing work; evaluating and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Makes hiring decisions and designs individual development plans with succession planning in mind for all key roles. EDUCATION , EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's Degree required. Minimum two (2) years of experience in law enforcement, military police, security agency or correctional experience required. Related, relevant, and/or direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements indicated above. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA) Proficient in law enforcement principles, security operations, and criminal investigation techniques. Skilled in interviewing, interrogation, and evidence evaluation. Knowledgeable in departmental policies, relevant laws, and local ordinances. Proficient in use and maintenance of duty weapons and Public Safety equipment. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and security systems (CCTV, access control.) Maintain physical fitness standards as required by the department. Demonstrate strong leadership and supervisory skills. Analyze situations quickly and implement effective solutions. Communicate effectively with subordinates, the public, and other stakeholders. Work independently and remain calm under pressure. Adapt to various assignments and physical locations. Self-motivated with strong initiative. Ethical and professional conduct. Ability to maintain alertness over extended periods. LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATIONS At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license. Must obtain and maintain a valid California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) Guard card and exposed Firearm permit within 120 days of employment. Must be able to possess a firearm registered to the applicant. Must pass all quarterly BSIS firearms qualification course with registered approved firearm. Must successfully complete all mandated in-service training and obtain required certification upon completion: Weaponless Defense Techniques training. Security details throughout the property and off-site business locations, applicable policies and procedures training. First Aid Certification required. CPR certification required. Chemical Agent/Pepper Gel Certification preferred. Authorized Driver: Role requires operation or driving of Tribe-owned vehicles or driving patron vehicles. A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the insurance carrier is required.
