About the role
You will serve as a MELTER LEADER in the Naval Foundry & Propeller Center (1400) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE Ability to operate electric furnaces for melting various materials, inspecting refractory lining in furnaces, eliminating unwanted constituents from melt by oxidizing and deoxidizing. Ability to prepare ladles for use, making necessary lining replacements/repairs to ladles and furnaces. Ability to adjust controls to bring melt to pouring temperature as indicated by visual inspection and pouring molten metal into pre-heated ladle(s). Ability to charge, refine, and pour both ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Sends samples of resultant melts to the Quality Assurance Test Laboratory for analysis.
