Responsibilities

  • Conduct field surveys in forested areas to collect data on tree species, forest composition, age, density, and growth rates.
  • Measure tree height, diameter, canopy cover, and overall forest health to assess the condition of the forest ecosystem.
  • Identify signs of pests, diseases, and other environmental stressors that could affect forest health.
  • Assess regeneration and recruitment of tree species to determine if forests are naturally regenerating or if interventions are needed.
  • Record and maintain accurate data on forest conditions, including tree measurements, soil types, and any evidence of erosion, pests, or diseases.
  • Use specialized equipment (e.g., diameter tapes, increment borers, GPS devices, and mapping tools) to collect precise measurements.
  • Analyze collected data to help develop management strategies for timber harvesting, reforestation, or conservation.
  • Assist forest managers in developing sustainable forest management plans based on survey data.
  • Provide recommendations for thinning, harvesting, replanting, and other forest management practices.
  • Ability to complete job duties in physically strenuous and varying terrains
  • Other duties as required
  • Experience and Knowledge Expectations:
  • 1 year of Forestry-related experience
  • Post-secondary education in natural resources, forestry or a related field is an asset
  • A valid B.C. Class 5 Driver's License, or equivalent, and a current Driver's Abstract
  • Previous experience operating ATVs and pick-up trucks safely on various road conditions is an asset
  • Preference may be given to candidates holding a valid BC Intermediate or Advanced First Aid certification, or equivalent
  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing required for safety sensitive positions including positions with driving responsibilities
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Punctuality, dependability, and accountability in the field
  • The ability to work away from home for scheduled periods of time
  • Experience using GPS, avenza, and other mapping programs
  • Experience working with chainsaws would be considered an asset
  • A safety conscious attitude
