Description of Work Reporting to the Correctional Housing Unit Manager I at a medium custody male correctional facility, this position is primarily responsible for first line supervision of Correctional Officer IIs. This position's responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Assigning lower level custody staff to an area or post. 2. Evaluating and overseeing officer activities and performance and ensuring that the custody, security, and welfare of offenders is maintained. 3. Coordinating work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implementing standard operational procedures and ensuring rules and regulations are followed according to DAC policy. 4. Managing a facility on occasion of being the highest-ranking custody staff on the premises or the Officer-in-Charge (OIC). 5. Ensuring that staff are fully trained, and that proper conduct, actions, and procedures are being followed. 6. Maintaining facility security through regular inspections to ensure compliance with governing regulations and standards relating to facility maintenance, health, and safety of offenders. 7. Responding to situations such as, distress codes, escapes, and transportation of offenders, and communicating effectively instructions/directions during emergency situations, drills and searches. 8. Conducting and/or supervising searches of offenders, offender living areas and work areas for contraband. 9. Investigating and acting when appropriate regarding security issues, incidents, disputes, and complaints. 10. Preparing, reviewing reports and completing performance evaluations on subordinate staff. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week). The selected candidate may be selected to work any shift and will work weekends and holidays to ensure 24/7 staff coverage. About Nash Correctional Institution Nash Correctional Institution is a medium custody facility located in Nashville, Nash County, NC. It houses approximately 800 male offenders. The facility provides offender labor to two Correction Enterprises operations located onsite: the Optical Plant and the Print Plant. The Optical Plant manufactures eyeglasses for customers, such as Medicaid and the Division of Services for the Blind. The Print Plant is a full-service print shop dedicated to printing services for state government agencies, public school systems, state community college, universities, and non-profit organizations.
