Database Administrator

Responsibilities

• Database Administration :
• Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain MariaDB, PostgreSQL, and Apache Cassandra databases
• Perform database capacity planning, performance tuning, and optimization
• Monitor database health, replication, clustering, and availability
• Backup, Recovery & High Availability :
• Design and manage backup and recovery strategies (logical & physical backups)
• Implement and manage replication, clustering, and failover solutions
• Perform disaster recovery planning and regular DR drills
• Security & Compliance :
• Manage database security: users, roles, privileges, encryption, and auditing
• Apply security patches and upgrades in compliance with company policies
• Ensure compliance with data protection and regulatory standards
• Performance & Troubleshooting :
• Diagnose and resolve database performance issues and outages
• Analyze slow queries, locks, and resource bottlenecks
• Provide root cause analysis (RCA) for incidents
• Automation :
• Automate routine DBA tasks using scripts (Shell, Python, etc.)
• Support containerized and cloud-based database deployments (if applicable)
• Documentation & Support :
• Maintain database documentation, SOPs, and operational runbooks
• Provide on-call support for production database environments
• Assist developers with schema design, indexing, and query optimization
• Required Skills & Qualifications :
• Technical Skills :
• Strong hands-on experience with MariaDB / MySQL , PostgreSQL , and Apache Cassandra
• Expertise in:
• Replication & clustering (Galera, PostgreSQL streaming replication, Cassandra clusters)
• Backup & recovery tools ( mysqldump , pg_dump , pg_basebackup , nodetool , etc.)
• Performance tuning and query optimization
• Experience with Linux systems and shell scripting
• Knowledge of monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Zabbix, Nagios, etc.)
• Database Concepts :
• ACID vs BASE principles
• OLTP and distributed database architectures
• Data modeling for relational and NoSQL databases
