About the role

Work Arrangement This role is categorized as hybrid. The successful candidate is expected to report to GM Sunnyvale Technical Center or Warren, Sloan Technical Center three times per week, or as dictated by business needs. GM's Human Interface Design - Vehicle Studio is hiring an experienced Designer to help shape the future of in-vehicle digital experiences. As part of our team, you'll collaborate with design, software, engineering, and product partners to craft intuitive, accessible, and visually compelling solutions that elevate the driving experience. You'll play a key role in designing and delivering system-level software experiences across GM's product portfolio. We're hiring across several specialized focus areas: OS Framework Design - system behaviors and foundational interaction models Digital Instrument Clusters - real-time driving data and contextual UI Touchscreen Interfaces - infotainment, media, and control surfaces Head-Up Displays (HUD) - glanceable, safety-critical information Partner Relationship Experiences - third-party integrations and co-branded UI Connected & Cross-Channel Experiences - seamless, consistent experiences across vehicles and mobile touchpoints If you're passionate about designing digital products that blend creativity, usability, and technical skill-and are driven to create cohesive, brand-aligned experiences across channels-we'd love to hear from you and have you help define the future of mobility.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with team members and cross functional teams to craft a premier user experience across all our products and platforms
  • Balance user needs, technical constraints, and business objectives to solve problems effectively
  • Develop production interaction design following design guidelines
  • Create design deliverables to communicate your work including sketches, drawings, mockups, animations, and prototypes
  • Release production spec and assets to software engineering teams
  • Present work to peers and leadership
  • Work with product teams and engineers to execute user interface designs as a flawless part of the overall user experience, advocating aesthetics and visual design principles
  • Participate in design critiques to guide design decisions
  • Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years' experience creating digital interfaces for web, mobile, or in-vehicle interfaces
  • Formal training or degree in Interface Design, Visual Design or related discipline
  • Candidate must provide a strong portfolio with work samples showcasing UX expertise, interaction, design, creativity, and depth of thought
  • Successful track record for bringing digital products to market
  • Ability to exercise restraint in design
  • Proficient in common design tools like Figma and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Ability to partner with cross functional teams to creatively solve challenging problems
  • Strong problem solving and organizing skills
  • Excellent visual, verbal, and written communication skills

Requirements

  • Prototyping experience (Software and/or hardware development experience a plus)
  • Ability to create renders and animations
  • Ability to identify and apply technology to achieve design goals
  • Deep understanding of the competitive landscape

Benefits

The expected base compensation for this role is: ($125,200- 192,000). Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.This role is categorized as hybrid.
