Responsibilities

  • Participate to the assembly of superconducting demonstrators and short model magnets.
  • Support production activities by preparing or modifying mechanical components on conventional machines (milling, turning).
  • Participate to the development of custom made tooling.

  • Experience in mechanics, manufacturing techniques and assembly of systems to tight tolerances.
  • Experience in the development of first-of-a-kind systems, which require the construction of mock-ups and dedicated tooling would be an advantage.
  • Basic experience with Computer Aided Design software, such as Catia, Solidworks or AutoCAD, would be an advantage.

Requirements

  • Construction, test and installation of electromechanical equipment and systems.
  • Reading of mechanical drawings, including ISO-GPS tolerancing.
  • Basic skills in the use of conventional chips removal machines.
  • Quality control, writing procedure and test reports.
  • Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the other language.
  • Eligibility criteria:
  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State .
  • By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is a general secondary education diploma .
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Applicants with a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree are not eligible.
  • Job closing date: 17.05.2026 at 23:59 CEST.
  • Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.
  • Working hours: 40 hours per week

As mechanical technician you will be part of a team working on designing, developing, validating concepts, procedures, and tools to produce demonstrators and short models of superconducting accelerator magnets - how exciting is that?
