We are seeking a highly motivated Investigational Pharmacy Technician to join our Investigational Drug Services (IDS) team. In this specialized role, you will contribute directly to innovative pediatric clinical trials, ensuring the safe, accurate, and compliant management of investigational medications. You will collaborate with pharmacists, physicians, study teams, monitors, and sponsors. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented technician who thrives in a structured, fast-paced healthcare environment and is passionate about clinical research, innovation, and patient safety. As an integral member of Investigational Drug Services (IDS) team and under the direct supervision of Clinical Pharmacist Specialists-Investigational Studies, the responsibilities of the Investigational Pharmacy Technician, include: managing Investigational Product (IP) inventory; performing investigational product distribution activities when required; maintaining information and assisting in the record keeping related to clinical trials required by the study protocols, sponsors and regulatory agencies; preparing investigational products in accordance with protocols and established procedures; maintaining the clinical investigational work areas in a clean and orderly manner; performing workload measurement support functions; performing training/educational functions; performing cross-functional and other duties and responsibilities consistent with the job classification. Job Responsibilities: Performs product distribution activities. Processes inpatient and outpatient IP orders for pharmacist verification and dispensing. Assists, as assigned, in preparing medications and supplies for dispensing. Repacks investigational products into appropriate unit doses, as needed. Prepares or compounds extemporaneous products using appropriate techniques under pharmacist supervision. Prepares intravenous and/or chemotherapy products in accordance with established procedures. Completes annual media fill and fingertip testing to maintain aseptic technique competency, with emphasis on the safe handling of cytotoxic and biohazardous agents. Assembles medications, supplies, and equipment, and prepares products according to master worksheets, protocols, and departmental procedures Ensures pharmacist verification of all investigational products prior to dispensing. Minimum Education and/or Training: High school diploma/GED required. Minimum Experience: High school diploma/GED with 4+ years of relevant experience. Significant Hospital Pharmacy experience required (e.g., parenteral/unit dose medication preparation, drug interactions, medication safety practices, patient privacy regulation). Experience in comparable operations preferred (e.g., health insurance, healthcare, specialty pharmacy, pharmacy call center, retail pharmacy). Experience managing compliance with applicable regulations and policies. Experience working with comparable software systems and databases for maintenance /review of documentation/records. Experience working with pharmacy personnel and other stakeholders, understanding and supporting complex pharmacy needs with guidance preferred. Proven performance in earlier role/ comparable role. Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by Law: Pharmacy Technician Licensure by the Tennessee State Board of Pharmacy Other relevant certifications by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board in assigned discipline (e.g., Pharmacy Technician(PHARM-TN) Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by SJCRH Only: Apexus Certified Expert (ACE) preferred, Pharmacy Basic Life Support (CPR) preferred
