Additional Information

The Humanities Teacher is responsible to the Head of School for delivering high-quality teaching, learning and assessment within the Humanities curriculum, in alignment with the School's Vision, Mission, Values and strategic priorities. The role involves planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons that support students' academic progress, critical thinking and understanding of the world. Working closely with Head of Secondary, Head of Curriculum and Assessment and Subject Lead, the Humanities Teacher ensures that teaching practices and assessment approaches are inclusive, evidence-informed and responsive to the diverse needs of students. The role contributes to a safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment, while supporting the holistic development of all learners. The Humanities curriculum may include topics such as climate change and sustainability, migration and population change, global challenges, political systems and governance, human rights and social justice, economic systems and globalisation, business ethics, citizenship, leadership and community service. Job Descriptions: 1. Teaching and Learning § Plan and deliver high-quality Humanities lessons that engage and challenge students. § Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students, including those with additional learning needs. § Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports student engagement and well-being. § Use a range of teaching strategies to develop students' critical thinking, inquiry skills and global awareness. § Monitor and evaluate student learning through a variety of formative and summative assessment methods. § Provide timely and constructive feedback to support student progress. § Maintain accurate records of student progress using the School's Management Information System (iSAMS). § Work collaboratively with the Head of Secondary, Curriculum and Assessment Lead and Subject Lead to ensure consistency in curriculum delivery, teaching approaches and assessment practices. § Contribute to curriculum development and review within the Humanities department, including the design of units linked to real-world and global themes. 2. Student Support and Well-being § Promote a learning environment that supports students' academic, social and emotional development. § Monitor student progress and identify individual learning needs. § Participate in Pupil Progress Meetings and contribute to intervention strategies where required. § Support inclusive practices for students with diverse learning needs (e.g., autism, ADHD, learning differences). § Work collaboratively with the Head of Secondary, Curriculum and Assessment Lead and Subject Lead to support student development. § Contribute to the maintenance of a safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment. 3. Assessment & Curriculum § Implement school-based assessment and reporting practices in line with curriculum expectations. § Design and adapt assessment tasks to meet the needs of diverse learners. § Use assessment data to inform teaching and improve student outcomes. § Work with the Curriculum and Assessment Lead and Subject Lead to ensure alignment of Humanities curriculum, assessment and reporting practices with whole-school systems. § Support the delivery of a coherent and relevant Humanities curriculum across year levels. § Contribute to curriculum mapping and resource development within the department. 4. Communication & Collaboration § Work collaboratively with colleagues, including the Curriculum and Assessment Lead and Subject Lead, to support consistent teaching and learning practices. § Maintain clear communication with students, parents and staff regarding student progress and learning. § Participate in staff meetings, professional learning and school events as required. § Engage in professional dialogue to reflect on and improve teaching practice. 5. Professional Responsibilities § Participate in the School's appraisal and professional development processes. § Engage in ongoing professional learning to enhance teaching practice. § Contribute to school programmes such as camps, enrichment activities or holiday programmes where required. § Uphold professional standards and act as a positive role model within the school community. § Conduct or support 1 ECA per term
