About the role
The Bigger Picture At Andromeda Robotics, we're not just imagining the future of human-robot relationships; we're building it. Abi is the first emotionally intelligent humanoid companion robot, designed to bring care, conversation, and joy to the people who need it most. Backed by investors such as Forerunner and Main Sequence and with customers already deploying Abi across elder care and healthcare, we're scaling fast, and we're doing it with an engineering-first culture that's obsessed with pushing the limits of what's possible. Our Values Empathy - Kindness and compassion are at the heart of everything we do. Play - Play sharpens focus. It keeps us curious, fast and obsessed with the craft. Never Settle - A relentless ambition, bias toward action, and uncomfortable levels of curiosity. Tenacity - Tenacious under pressure, we assume chaos and stay in motion to adapt and progress. Unity - Different minds. Shared mission. No passengers. About the role We are hiring a highly capable generalist engineer to work closely with the CTO on fast-moving robotics projects across software, electronics, mechanical systems, lab infrastructure, prototyping, testing, and deployment. This is not a traditional engineering role with a narrow scope or fixed responsibilities. Think of it more like a "special ops" role, you wil be deployed wherever you're needed to fix problems and bring more alignment to every team within the business. It is a broad, hands-on role for someone who can take ambiguous technical problems, learn the system quickly, and drive them toward working outcomes. The role is software-led, but it sits at the intersection of software, electrical engineering, mechanical design, systems integration, and robotics operations. The ideal person does not need to be a deep specialist in every area. We are looking for someone who is technically broad, fast to learn, and comfortable figuring things out across domains. This role is well-suited to someone early in their career who is ambitious, hungry, and wants to grow quickly by working on real systems, real robots, and real technical problems. Typical work may include: Building software tools, internal systems, scripts, services, and robotics infrastructure Working with embedded systems using C/C++ and Python Integrating sensors, actuators, microcontrollers, compute modules, and robotic subsystems Reading schematics, datasheets, PCB designs, and electrical documentation Debugging hardware and software issues across the full system Designing, modifying, or reviewing simple mechanical parts and assemblies Using CAD tools to inspect, modify, and prepare designs Supporting 3D printing, CNC machining, tolerancing, prototyping, and assembly workflows Setting up lab infrastructure, test rigs, development environments, and CI/CD pipelines Designing systems that are reliable, testable, maintainable, and easy to iterate on Using AI tools and software agents to accelerate development, research, debugging, and implementation What we are looking for We are looking for a well-rounded engineer who can move quickly across unfamiliar technical territory. You do not need to be an expert in every domain. You do need to be able to learn quickly, think clearly, work hard, and take ownership of outcomes. The strongest candidates will have a mix of the following: Software engineering Strong general software engineering ability Experience with Python Experience with embedded C/C++ Ability to work with Linux-based systems Understanding of software architecture and systems design Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, build systems, or deployment pipelines Ability to write clean, practical, maintainable code Comfort working across robotics, infrastructure, backend systems, internal tools, and automation Ability to use AI tools, coding agents, and automation workflows effectively Electrical engineering Ability to read and understand schematics Ability to read datasheets and understand component behaviour Basic understanding of PCB design and layout Understanding of digital circuits, analogue electronics, sensors, power systems, and embedded hardware Ability to debug electrical systems using tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic analysers, or similar equipment Ability to reason about system-level electrical design, even if not a specialist electrical engineer Mechanical engineering Basic CAD ability Ability to inspect, modify, and understand 3D models and technical drawings Understanding of mechanical tolerancing and manufacturability Familiarity with 3D printing, CNC machining, prototyping, fixtures, assemblies, and mechanical debugging Ability to work with mechanical systems well enough to prototype, test, and collaborate with mechanical engineers Systems thinking Ability to understand how software, electronics, mechanical systems, manufacturing, testing, and deployment fit together Ability to break complex systems into clear components, interfaces, risks, and next actions Ability
