Title Assistant Manager, Critical Facilities Reports To Manager, Critical Facilities The Job The Assistant Manager, Critical Facilities, is responsible for all aspects of data center operations and maintenance of critical and non-critical data center infrastructure, equipment, systems, and staff, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to safety and reliability within the Data Center. Working with the Critical Facilities Manager, assist in building a team of Critical Facilities Technicians (CFTs), Engineers, and outside contractors capable of achieving 100% availability. The Assistant Manager understands and can train staff on colocation data center environments, including the planning and layout of power and cabling, customer needs, and remote hands functions.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the management of the day-to-day operation and maintenance of critical and non-critical data center infrastructure, equipment, and systems .
- B uild a staff of technician s with the necessary skill sets to accomplish data center operations that deliver total availability (100% uptime) while minimizing risks for customers .
- Manage power and cooling capacity and monitor environmental conditions within data halls .
- Work shifts to support 24x7 data center operations, have flexibility in work hours to cover other shifts , and support maintenance activities, as needed .
- Resolve all electrical, mechanical , and f ire p rotection s ystem issues in the data center while minimizing risk s and communicat ing issues to management and customers .
- Assist in a leadership capacity , coordinating data center construction and commissioning , and overseeing the transition from construction to sustainable operations .
- Review results from preventive maintenance inspections and provide guidance on how to address issues found .
- Assume an ownership stake in the ongoing evolution and operation of the facility's Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) .
- Ensure that all staff adhere to company standards for using the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) .
- Oversee accuracy and completeness of the CMMS, produce operational reports as needed .
- Enforce strict adherence to customer SLAs and change control activities .
- Responsible for scheduling, coordinating, and reviewing work handled by outside contractors and vendors .
- In the absence of the manager , assume a leadership role with limited authority .
- Assist with site tours for current and future customers as required .
- Manage work schedules and assignments
- Foster open, respectful, and professional communication directly within the team as well as with co-workers/ teammates and leaders across the organization
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field of study , t echnical school with an emphasis on mission-critical operations or high-performance manufacturing, relevant military operations, or equivalent experience is required
- 3+ years' experience in mission - critical environments, required
- 1 + year (s) of direct management of non-exempt shift - based employees, required
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Experience in creating and managing a critical infrastructure preventive maintenance program is required
- Experience establishing a new colocation data center or data hall, preferred
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills required for interacting with internal employees and leaders, and external contractors and customers
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills are required for understanding and evaluating complex problems, including analyzing a situation, identifying solutions, and selecting the best solution
