How Will You Make a Difference? The EHS Specialist will serve as the primary EHS person for the facility, with responsibility for executing site-level long‑term environmental, health, and safety strategies, ensuring robust compliance with California's complex regulatory requirements, and partnering with Operations and Corporate EHS to drive sustainable improvements. What Will Your Typical Day Look Like? Essential Responsibilities Daily Oversight & Execution of EHS activities Support the execution of the site EHS strategic and operating plans aligned with corporate and California regulatory expectations. Drive a proactive EHS culture through engagement, communication, and visible leadership. In collaboration with Corporate and Site Management, establish annual EHS goals, metrics, and leading indicators. Partner with Operations to embed EHS into daily management systems. Responsible for maintaining compliance with all Federal, State, Local and Business Best Practice EHS regulations and standards. Provide tactical leadership of site performance in meeting EHS goals and objectives Lead the validation of health, safety, and environmental Wabtec management systems to ensure 100% compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements Develop a systematic approach to dealing with organizational changes throughout site Work closely with operations teams to identify and address EHS related concerns with site operations. Perform necessary administrative activities associated with effective management of shop operations. Maintain site EHS metrics and work cooperatively with EHS HQ on various projects and initiatives, and culture change. Ensure site personnel understand and comply with all environmental certifications, permits and regulations. Implement solutions that drive compliance. Develop and maintain digital management information systems for demonstrating compliance with air permit requirements Implement and audit team member requirements for site permits and regulator expectations Ensure full implementation and execution of site IIPP, HIPP and WPV Plans Ensure documentation of compliance with all regulatory permitting Work to follow up on regulatory compliance items identified for follow up Updating and delivering regulatory compliance training Implement all other environmental programs for site Regulatory Compliance - California Focus Ensure full compliance with Cal/OSHA, Title 8 CCR, IIPP, Heat Illness, LOTO, machine guarding, and CAL OSHA-specific requirements. Manage environmental programs within accordance with local and federal EPA regulations Lead agency interactions and maintain compliance documentation. Program Ownership & Continuous Improvement Support and maintain ISO-aligned EHS management system elements, where applicable. Validate compliance with air, water, wastewater, hazardous waste, and stormwater permits. Lead risk assessments, IH monitoring, and corrective actions. Training & Culture Development Oversee development and delivery of regulatory compliance training. Coach leaders and team members on safe work practices. Leadership & Collaboration Influence leadership teams through data-driven insights. Provide informal guidance and support to site EHS contributors, as applicable. Support corporate initiatives, audits, and benchmarking. What Do We Want to Know About You? Qualifications / Requirements - Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, safety engineering, health sciences, or related field. - 5-8+ years of progressive EHS leadership experience in manufacturing. - Deep knowledge of California EHS regulations. - Proven ability to influence and partner across operations. Desired Characteristics - Experience in manufacturing or assembly-based environments. - ISO management systems experience. - Strong analytical and leadership skills.
