Food Service Assistant III (Cashier) - Part-Time - Rotating Shifts - Christiana Hospital - Newark Campus

Responsibilities

• Operate Point of Sale (POS) systems to process payments and issue receipts.
• Reconcile cash drawers and ensure accurate end-of-shift deposits.
• Accept and process credit cards, dining cards, vouchers, and other forms of payment.
• Follow proper cash handling procedures and maintain accuracy standards.
• Troubleshoot POS, scale, and card reader issues.
• Provide excellent customer service and resolve concerns using HEAT principles.
• Restock and sanitize beverage machines and maintain cleanliness in service areas.
• Monitor cafeteria areas and support team operations.
• Adhere to all safety, sanitation, and infection prevention protocols.
• Work Schedule:
• This position requires participation in a rotating shift schedule , including:
• 5:30 AM - 2:00 PM
• 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
• 11:00 AM - 7:30 PM
• 11:15 AM - 7:45 PM
• Other 8-hour shifts as needed
• All team members are required to work every other weekend and holiday.
• Shift times may vary based on departmental needs.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required .
• At least 6 months of food service or cashier experience preferred.
• Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
• Skills & Abilities:
• Strong knowledge of cash handling and POS systems.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic and reconcile transactions.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Comfortable working in a healthcare setting with potential exposure to infectious diseases and cleaning chemicals.

• This position has a starting rate of $18.08 per hour, regardless of prior experience. After six months of continuous employment, the hourly rate will automatically increase to $21.15 per hour. After one year of continuous employment, the hourly rate will automatically increase to $22.18 per hour.
