Job Description: The Computational Pathology Scientist will support hospital-based pathology faculty across two health systems in the implementation and execution of artificial intelligence-driven research projects focused on digital pathology and clinically relevant problem-solving. This role applies advanced computational approaches-including deep learning, foundation models, and large language models-to address complex diagnostic and workflow challenges that cannot be solved using conventional methods. This position operates within a pilot-stage computational pathology initiative and collaborates with an advisory team to evaluate and prioritize proposed projects based on scientific impact, feasibility, and available resources. The computational environment consists primarily of locally managed high-performance systems, supplemented by academic clusters and cloud-based platforms as appropriate. Projects involving protected health information (PHI) are conducted exclusively within secure, locally hosted high-performance computing environments to ensure compliance with data privacy regulations. This is a fixed-term position with a current end date of one year from the date of hire, which may be extended based upon available funding. Job Qualifications Education and Experience: Required: Master's Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related computational field Required: 2+ years related experience Required: 1-2 years demonstrated experience in AI-based image analysis Required: Experience with artificial intelligence, machine learning, or deep learning methods Required: Strong programming experience in Python Required: Experience with high-performance computing environments (local workstations, academic clusters, and/or cloud platforms) PhD Preferred Experience in computational pathology, medical imaging, or healthcare AI is highly desired Familiarity with foundation models and modern AI architectures is a plus Experience deploying models in secure, privacy-compliant environments (e.g., HIPAA-regulated systems) is advantageous And/or the equivalent combination of education and experience Job Competencies Strong problem-solving ability and adaptability to evolving technologies Ability to rapidly learn and apply new computational and domain-specific methods Strategic thinking in evaluating and prioritizing research initiatives Ability to integrate, modify, and extend open-source computational tools Capability to develop algorithms from first principles when required Strong understanding of data privacy considerations in computational workflows Strong communication skills for interdisciplinary collaboration Ability to manage multiple projects with varying scope, complexity, and data sensitivity Commitment to reproducibility, documentation, and research rigor CRIMINAL BACKGROUND AND EDUCATION CHECK REQUIRED Benefits of Working at Brown: Please review additional information on the Benefits of Working at Brown .
