POSITION OVERVIEW: The Safety/DOT Coordinator is responsible for ensuring full regulatory compliance across all heavy haul transportation operations, including DOT, FMCSA, and state-specific oversized/overweight requirements. This role oversees driver compliance, safety programs, audits, permitting support, and operational risk mitigation to ensure safe and compliant transport of specialized freight. KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Ensure compliance with FMCSA, USDOT, OSHA and state regulations for Transportation Operations Maintain driver qualification files (DQFs), medical cards, MVRs, and certifications Manage Hours of Service (HOS) compliance and ELD monitoring Conduct routine internal safety audits and prepare for DOT audits and inspections Complete ride-along and field observations to identify unsafe behaviors and conditions Develop and enforce safety policies and standard operating procedures Investigate incidents, accidents, near misses and implement corrective actions Coordinate drug and alcohol testing programs in compliance with DOT requirements Support permitting compliance related to weight, dimensions, and routing restrictions Monitor vehicle inspections, maintenance records, and out-of-service conditions Train drivers and staff on safety procedures and regulatory updates Maintain accurate safety and compliance documentation and reporting Interface with the Logistics/Dispatch Coordinator to ensure safe execution of project moves Any other responsibilities as assigned by TAS JOB SKILLS: Strong organizational skills Strong Understanding of Heavy Haul Operational risks and regulatory exposure (load securement, routing, escorts) Strong knowledge of OS/OW state regulations and procedures Experienced using Root Cause Analysis methodologies (5-Why, Fishbone, Fault-Tree Analysis) Experienced with developing Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) Skilled in conducting Job Safety Analysis and Job Hazard Analysis Strong knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, and OSHA regulations Experience with ELD systems and HOS Compliance (Samsara) Audit Preparation and Compliance Management Strong and Effective Communication Ability to track and analyze safety KPIs using data reports. EDUCATION & TRAINING: 3-5 + years of DOT Compliance or Safety Transportation experience MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of USDOT/FMCSA/OSHA requirements and regulations Knowledge of OS/OW procedures and regulations Strong Organizational and Multi-Tasking Skills Experience supporting DOT audits or regulatory inspections Able to walk/stand in steel-toed boots for long distances/ periods of time. Ability to work flexible days/schedules- Weekends as needed. Read and speak English fluently. Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Performs other physical activities including use of fingers, sitting, stooping, bending, crouching, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions. Visual acuity requirements include color, depth perception and field of vision necessary to prepare and analyze data and figures, operate a computer terminal, and conduct extensive reading.
