Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate daily vessel operations based on instructions from the Project Management team, including navigational routes within dredging and marine construction areas.
  • Operate tugboats safely and efficiently, including towing operations and anchor handling for marine construction activities.
  • Position dredgers and support vessels accurately within designated work areas.
  • Demonstrate strong manoeuvring skills when navigating through waterways, sea channels, and restricted marine construction zones.

  • Work closely with other Vessels-in-Charge and marine crew to ensure safe and coordinated vessel movements.
  • Maintain accurate operational records, logs, and reports in compliance with maritime regulations.
  • Ensure the vessel and its equipment are properly maintained and ready for operational requirements.
  • Supervise and ensure the safety, health, and well-being of the assigned crew members .
  • Report operational matters to the Technical Superintendent and deck maintenance matters to the Marine Controller .
  • Ensure compliance with company safety procedures, maritime regulations, and operational standards.

Requirements

  • MPA Manning Licence - Helmsman (mandatory)
  • Certificate of Competency (CoC) Class 5 or equivalent maritime certification (preferred)
  • Minimum 8 years of experience operating tugboats
  • Proven experience in towing operations and anchor tug handling in marine construction or dredging projects
  • Experience working within dredging or marine civil engineering environments is preferred
  • Strong knowledge of tides, coastal navigation, marine hazards, and weather conditions
  • Ability to read and interpret DGPS navigation systems
  • Good leadership and team supervision skills
  • Strong understanding of maritime safety regulations and vessel operational requirements

This role oversees tugboat operations within marine construction and dredging sites, including towing and anchor handling activities. The successful candidate will ensure safe vessel manoeuvring, accurate navigation, and effective coordination with project and marine operations teams.
