About the role

The Manager of Technical Services for North America is responsible for initiating, developing, and maintaining contacts with technical personnel within major and junior mining and engineering companies worldwide. This position will actively foster personal relationships with key individuals in mining companies to encourage them to use the services of ALS Metallurgy and demonstrate its technical superiority. As part of the senior management team this position will assist with developing strategic plans and business development strategies to ensure that all financial targets are met. Specific Responsibilities Provide consulting services to clients in the field of metallurgical test work or mineral processing; Prepare quotations based on enquires of prospective clients; Lead business development efforts such as hosting webinars, representing ALS Metallurgy at conferences and institutes, and visiting client sites; Provide direction to the project metallurgists to ensure that projects are completed on time and on budget, and to ensure that the objectives of clients are met; Review project metallurgist reports and ensure a high quality standard is met; Build a team of highly competent metallurgists to manage the test programs; Review technical data and prepare professional technical reports summarizing project results; Recommend future programs of test work in order to maximize process efficiency; Evaluate and implement new technology and services including equipment and methods that add value to client projects and improve ALS Metallurgy's ability to compete; Assist with technical activities in the laboratories when the need arises; Liaise with the Project Metallurgists regarding ongoing test programs and provide support if required; Mentor the technical staff, conduct performance reviews and take corrective action; Develop, manage, and conduct research projects which will enhance the professional standing of ALS Metallurgy; Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality; Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures; Other duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Demonstrated leadership skills with proven ability to coach and mentor others; Well-developed communication and report writing skills; Experience supervising and directing metallurgical test work; Ability to effectively manage workload and meet deadlines; Exceptional organization skills and detail-oriented; Highly motivated, strong sense of responsibility and excellent work ethic; Able to work independently or as part of a team; Strong customer service orientation with a dedicate focus on exceeding client expectations; Proven troubleshooting and technical support skills; Able to effectively handle a high volume of work and time critical issues; Previous experience working in a concentrator is considered an asset. Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal). Required Qualifications P. Eng designation required; Completed degree in Metallurgy or Mineral Processing (or equivalent); Prior flotation and comminution experience is essential; A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in laboratory analysis and operations; Experience in business development with a strong international network; Project management experience is highly regarded. Physical Demands Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks; Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities; Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
