About the Position: Serves in the Omaha District (NWO) Safety & Occupational Health Office as a Safety &Occupational Health Specialist. This position provides support for civilian employees assigned to the Safety and Occupational Health Office (SOHO) and is responsible for assisting with administration of the safety and occupational health program for organizational elements located throughout a large and diverse geographical area, engaged in widely dispersed and diversified activities. GS-09: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assist in safety program management, accident prevention and control, safety education and specific safety and health issues related to construction projects. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D. [remove LL.B or J.D., if unrelated] with a major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or master's or equivalent graduate degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position GS-09 within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
