Job Summary: The Commodity Manager for Direct Materials leads sourcing and procurement for strategic direct material categories vital to our manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for supplier relationship management, contract negotiations, cost optimization, and risk mitigation. The Commodity Manager partners closely with Engineering, Operations, R&D, Product Management, and Finance to align procurement strategies with business objectives and drive value, innovation, and continuous improvement. Job Responsibilities: Strategic Sourcing: Lead sourcing, supplier selection, RFx processes, negotiations, and contract management for assigned direct material categories, in conjunction with corporate Global Commodity Management strategies. Supplier Management: As Supplier Relationship Owner for strategic suppliers, build and maintain strong supplier partnerships. Oversee supplier performance, conduct regular reviews, resolve issues, and drive continuous improvement. Cost Optimization: Build and manage value creation roadmaps - cost savings, avoidance, innovation, working capital, resilience. Analyze spend and market trends to identify and implement cost savings opportunities. Lead end-to-end sourcing events (RFI/RFQ/RFP). Negotiate pricing, terms, and value-added solutions. Develop should-cost and total cost of ownership models. Risk & Market Analysis: Monitor commodity markets, track supply risks and trends, and identify new suppliers, materials, and innovations. Develop risk mitigation and dual-sourcing strategies. Contract Management: Draft, negotiate, and administer contracts with suppliers, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and company requirements. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Finance, and other teams to align procurement with business needs and support new initiatives. Process Improvement: Evaluate and enhance procurement and sourcing processes. Drive continuous improvement using data analytics and KPIs. Compliance: Ensure all procurement activities adhere to company policies, industry regulations, and ethical standards. Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or related field. Minimum 5 years of procurement or sourcing experience, with focus on direct materials in manufacturing or engineering. Experience with following commodities preferred: Roller bearings, steel castings, gears, hydraulics, machined parts, fasters/hardware. Strong negotiation, supplier management, and contract administration skills. Proficiency with ERP/procurement systems (e.g., SAP, Coupa) and data analysis tools (Celonis, SAP Analytics Cloud, Excel). Professional certifications (CPSM, C.P.M., APICS, ASCM) are a plus. Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
