Slinger Supervisor - Ship Repair

Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate all slinging and lifting activities on site
• Ensure all lifting operations comply with LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations) and site-specific safety procedures
• Plan and review lifting operations, including risk assessments and method statements (RAMS)
• Inspect lifting equipment (slings, chains, shackles, hooks) before use to ensure safety and compliance
• Communicate clearly with crane operators using standard signalling methods
• Ensure correct slinging techniques are used for different load types
• Monitor work areas to maintain safe lifting zones and prevent hazards
• Lead and mentor slingers/signallers, ensuring competence and adherence to procedures
• Key Skills & Competencies:
• Strong knowledge of lifting operations and rigging techniques
• Excellent leadership and team supervision skills
• Clear communication and signalling ability
• High attention to detail and safety awareness
• Ability to assess risks and make quick decisions under pressure
• Good organisational and coordination skills
• Valid CPCS or NPORS Slinger/Signaller certification (essential)
• Supervisory qualification or experience (preferred)
• Proven experience in lifting operations within construction or heavy industry
• Knowledge of LOLER and other relevant UK health & safety regulations
