- Operate a variety of tools, circuit testing and motor vehicle equipment including a bucket truck to install, maintain and repair traffic signal, railroad crossing, and flashing school sign systems, set wood poles and guy anchors, install guy and span wire cables.
- Maintain an inventory of parts and supplies in support of street and railroad traffic signal maintenance and emergency repair, recommends adequate inventory levels and orders supplies as necessary.
- Locate street light, ITS, and railroad traffic signal wiring for contractors and utility companies.

Job Summary The Traffic Signal Technician is an entry level technician for those seeking to become Traffic Signal Technician, Senior if applicant meets qualifications. Workers in this position will contribute to traffic signal, railroad, and ITS operations and maintenance while advancing skills toward the senior level. The position reports to the Traffic Signal Team Supervisor. The Traffic Signal Technician or Senior position have no supervisory responsibilities. The Traffic Signal Technician, Senior will also provide direction. Incumbents will remain at the Traffic Signal Technician until they meet the minimum qualifications for the Traffic Signal Technician, Senior level. During the probationary period of 6 months, new hires will gain a broad understanding of what the signal technician or senior roll plays in the success of the division. Please note: this position may be filled at the level of Traffic Signal Technician or Traffic Signal Technician, Senior based on qualifications, skills and abilities.
