About the role

This position is located in the Risk Management Agency (RMA), Deputy Administrator for Insurance Services (DAIS). The primary purpose of this position is to plan, execute, and advance regional and nationwide strategies foracquiring, analyzing, integrating, and applying Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote-sensingdata to support RMA's risk-management products. Time-in-Grade Requirement: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. You must meet this requirement by the closing date of this announcement. Your application and resume must clearly show that you possess the experience requirements. If education is required or being used to qualify, you must submit a copy of your transcripts. Basic Requirement: GS-13: 1. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields. OR 2. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must also possess experience and/or directly related education listed below. Specialized Experience Requirement For the GS-13 grade level: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one full-time year (12-months) of specialized work experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: Utilizing Geographic Information System (GIS) concepts and techniques such as data conversions, georeferencing, spatial interpolation, etc. sufficient to determine the applicability of GIS technologies to a variety of administrative and/or program operations. Demonstrating the knowledge of, and skill in applying and adapting analytical and evaluative methods to assess the effectiveness, efficiency, and productivity of administrative and/or program operations and to develop, modify and improve operations. EDUCATION CANNOT BE SUBSTITUTED FOR SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE AT THE GS-13 LEVEL. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
