The assistant prep plant maintenance coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing maintenance activities for the coal preparation plant to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all plant equipment and systems. This position works closely with operations, maintenance personnel, vendors, and management to minimize downtime, improve equipment performance, and support production goals while maintaining compliance with all safety and environmental regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and schedule preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance for prep plant equipment and surface heavy equipment associated with the operation.
  • Develop and maintain maintenance plans, work orders, and equipment records.
  • Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities to improve reliability.
  • Prioritize maintenance work based on safety, production impact, and equipment condition.
  • Coordinate maintenance shutdowns, outages, and major repairs.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of critical spare parts, tools, and maintenance supplies.
  • Work with vendors and contractors to obtain quotes, schedule services, and oversee contract work.
  • Track maintenance costs and support budgeting and cost-control efforts.
  • Review inspections and maintenance reports to ensure corrective actions are completed on time.
  • Support troubleshooting for mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and process equipment.
  • Coordinate maintenance for conveyors, crushers, screens, pumps, centrifuges, filters, thickening systems, and other plant equipment.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all applicable mine safety standards.
  • Participate in incident investigations and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Collaborate with operations personnel to improve plant efficiency and equipment availability.
  • Assist in developing long-range maintenance strategies and capital improvement projects.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of maintenance experience in coal mining, coal preparation plants, aggregate processing, industrial manufacturing, or a related industry.
  • Previous maintenance planning, scheduling, or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) preferred.
  • Knowledge of coal preparation plant operations and maintenance practices.
  • Understanding of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Strong planning, scheduling, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and equipment drawings.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and maintenance management software.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to analyze maintenance data and implement reliability improvements.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety regulations and industry best practices.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced mining environment.
  • Environment and Safety:
  • Improve on safety standards by holding safety meetings, conducting safety interactions, and taking corrective action where required.
  • Ensure adherence to State, Federal and Company workplace policies and standard work procedures for risk identification, risk assessment and risk control.
  • Maintain a high level of safety performance through effective communication, monitoring, and revision of standard work procedures.
  • Identify and report safety risks, accidents, incidents, injuries, and property damage at the workplace.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled safety meetings and training.
  • Investigate accidents and near misses with a view toward positive action, through training, equipment set-up or equipment repair and report on findings and conclusions.
  • Maintain environmental awareness amongst the workforce by holding meetings and involving the environmental department in related subjects.
  • Ensure adherence to environmental policy, work standards, management plans and regulatory obligations and requirements.
  • Integrate environmental policies, programs, and practices into all activities of the organization.
