  • Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of common small hand tools.
  • Ability to understand Maryland State apprenticeship program requirements.
  • Ability to understand and comply with proper usage of the tools, materials and techniques used in engine and equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to follow instructions orally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand and comply with safety practices and procedures.
  • Ability to understand and perform the skills to repair and overhaul such engine driven equipment as lawn mowers, pumps, tractors, chain saws, motors and compressors.
  • Ability to understand how to operate grinding machines.
  • Ability to successfully complete on-the-job and classroom instruction requirements.
  • Background Check
  • Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointments to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.
  • Probation
  • All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation.
  • Eligibility
  • Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.

The work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive close supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed in various equipment repair shops where such conditions as the seasonal extremes of weather, sharp blades and insects may be encountered. Work requires moderate physical exertion in lifting and moving heavy machine parts and equipment.
