Intake & Production Planner

Responsibilities

• Raw Material Intake Planning
• Schedule and coordinate incoming deliveries of raw materials.
• Liaise with suppliers, transport providers, and procurement teams regarding delivery schedules.
• Monitor raw material stocks and ensure sufficient inventory is available to meet production requirements.
• Verify intake documentation, weighbridge records, and supplier delivery information.
• Coordinate sampling and quality assurance checks on incoming materials.
• Investigate and report raw material shortages, discrepancies, or quality concerns.
• Production Planning
• Create daily and weekly production plans based on customer demand, stock levels, and manufacturing capacity.
• Schedule production runs to maximise efficiency and minimise changeovers.
• Prioritise customer orders to ensure On-Time In-Full (OTIF) delivery performance.
• Monitor production progress and adjust plans where necessary.
• Work closely with production operators to ensure plans are achievable and realistic.
• Maintain production planning records and system data.
• Inventory Control
• Monitor inventory levels of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods.
• Conduct regular stock reconciliations and investigate variances.
• Support monthly and annual stock counts.
• Ensure accurate inventory records within ERP/MRP systems.
• Identify slow-moving, obsolete, or at-risk stock.
• Operational Coordination
• Act as the key link between Sales, Procurement, Production, Transport, and Quality departments.
• Communicate production schedules and changes to relevant stakeholders.
• Assist with transport and dispatch planning where required.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives within the mill.
• Compliance & Safety
• Ensure all planning activities comply with feed safety, HACCP, quality assurance, and company procedures.
• Maintain accurate production and inventory records.
• Adhere to Health & Safety, Environmental, and Feed Assurance Scheme requirements.
• Report hazards, incidents, and non-conformances promptly.
• Skills & Competencies
• Essential
• Strong planning and organisational skills.

• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
• Computer literacy, including Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to prioritise multiple tasks effectively.
• Desirable
• Knowledge of animal feed manufacturing processes.
• Experience with ERP/MRP planning systems.
• Understanding of inventory management principles.
• Knowledge of HACCP, UFAS, FEMAS, or equivalent feed assurance standards.
• Qualifications & Experience
• Essential
• GCSEs (or equivalent) including Mathematics and English.
• Previous experience in production planning, scheduling, inventory control, or manufacturing operations.
• Desirable
• Experience within animal feed, grain, milling, food manufacturing, or agricultural industries.

Reporting to: Operations Manager Reference: R9740 Job Purpose The Intake & Production Planner is responsible for coordinating the intake of raw materials, planning daily and weekly production schedules, maintaining inventory accuracy, and ensuring the efficient flow of materials through the feed mill. The role ensures customer orders are produced safely, efficiently, and on time while maintaining feed quality, stock control, and regulatory compliance.
