Responsibilities

  • Execute outbound freight consolidation strategies for Automotive OEM customers.
  • Assign carriers to customer loads based on delivery requirements, load factor optimization, and available capacity.
  • Maximize use of dedicated fleet assets (trucks, trailers, drivers) to reduce transportation costs and improve service performance.
  • Run daily reports using PPG's Oracle BI reporting tools to analyze freight volumes and forecast shipping needs.
  • Conduct daily meetings with dedicated carrier representatives to review capacity availability, coverage, and execution plans.
  • Coordinate dedicated trailer pools, preloading operations, and pickup ready times with warehouse shipping teams.
  • Prepare and distribute daily reports outlining assigned capacity and shipment weights to customer service and shipping personnel.
  • Help with shipment investigations, including lost freight, over/short/damaged (OS&D) situations, hazardous material spills, and other transportation exceptions.
  • Be the transportation subject matter expert, providing guidance on carrier operations, DOT compliance, and 49 CFR hazardous material regulations.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in outbound logistics operations, transportation, shipping, or warehousing
  • At least 3-5 years of experience leading cross functional meetings
  • Strong working knowledge of transportation networks, optimization strategies, and carrier capacity management
  • Familiarity with DOT, FMCSA, and 49 CFR hazardous materials regulations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Teams, and Excel

As the Transportation Planner, you will support outbound transportation and daily execution for our Automotive Business Unit. You will oversee planning, optimizing, and coordinating freight movements using our dedicated carrier's fleet to support just-in-time delivery requirements. You will help develop efficient routing and consolidation strategies while addressing service or capacity challenges.
