WHAT'S THE JOB? The Utility Janitor combines janitorial duties with light facilities support and on-site driving. You will ensure the camp's common areas, offices, and workspaces are clean and sanitary while operating camp vehicles to transport waste, supplies, and equipment between facilities. Safety protocols, WHMIS compliance, and PPE use are mandatory. This role is well-suited for professionals with strong hospitality backgrounds and experience working in remote camps. The position requires fly-in/fly-out travel from Edmonton, Alberta or Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, to project sites in Nunavut or NWT, with potential for weather related delays or logistical challenges. The position involves a remote work lifestyle in a camp setting with the following amenities: All meals and accommodations are provided Travel is provided to and from Edmonton Private room with cable television Access to Wi-Fi Access to laundry facilities and detergents Access to a gym and common areas Key responsibilities include: Perform janitorial cleaning of all assigned areas (dining hall, recreation room, offices, warehouses). Clean and sanitize restrooms, locker rooms, and storage rooms; restock supplies. Sweep, mop, vacuum, strip and buff floors; clean carpets, rugs, and wash windows. Collect garbage and recyclables across camp; drive camp vehicles to transport waste to disposal areas. Drive utility vehicles to deliver supplies, linens, and equipment between buildings. Perform minor maintenance tasks (light bulbs, filters, drains) and report major repair needs. Ensure PPE use and compliance with WHMIS and sanitation procedures. Assist with special projects, lock/unlock facilities, and secure areas after cleaning. ** This posting is not for an active vacancy. Required Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent (hospitality certification preferred). 1-3 years of janitorial or labour experience (remote camp or hotel preferred) with construction site driving experience. Valid class 5 driver's license with a clean driving record. Proficiency in MS Excel and reporting. WHMIS and other relevant safety certifications (or willingness to obtain before deployment). Physically fit to perform required duties. Ability to pass the Drug and Alcohol and Health Assessment is required Must be able to clear a Criminal Background Check Ability to clearly communicate in English through radios Must be able to pass employment drug and alcohol testing Other Skills and Competencies: Safe driving skills on unpaved camp roads and in construction zones. Demonstrated supervisory experience in Janitorial and facilities operations. Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills. Customer service orientation with professional demeanour. Thorough understanding of workplace safety, sanitation, and OSHA compliance. Ability to motivate staff, resolve conflicts, and foster a respectful, high-performance culture. Cultural sensitivity and ability to work respectfully with Indigenous and Inuit staff. Physical Demands: Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. Stand, walk, bend, and climb stairs for extended periods. Work in both indoor and outdoor environments under various weather conditions, accessing cabins, outbuildings, or utility entrances. Perform repetitive tasks and safely handle cleaning equipment and materials. Must be comfortable working 12-hour shifts in a repetitive, fast-paced environment. Navigate fast-paced environments, especially during service peaks. Drive from one location to another, delivering food and setting up the service station. Operate cleaning machines (floor scrubbers, vacuums) safely. Working Conditions: Employees are responsible for arranging their transportation to the designated point of dispatch (typically Edmonton, Alberta). Fly-in/fly-out position based in a remote Arctic camp, with potential for weather-related travel delays. Shared accommodations and meals are provided while on site. Extended periods away from home; rotational schedule required. Fast-paced food service environment requiring physical stamina and long hours.
